After our bike ride down the mountain it was still pretty early in the morning and we were close to the Hana highway so we decided to continue toward Hana. The road to Hana is full of twists and turns and one way bridges but also has tons of waterfalls and beautiful pools. Typically, you'd want to start earlier in the morning but we decided to just go as far as we could and then turn back. Maybe because it was late in the day or maybe because it was a Wednesday afternoon but the road was not very busy and made for a spectacular day.
Lower Puohokamoa Falls: We packed a lunch and had a picnic overlooking these falls.
Mikey climbing a tree near the falls.
Hawaiian Garden Spider
Haiapua'ena Falls: We got in and swam in this one. There was a nice ledge at the bottom you could sit in while the water poured down on you.
View from the road. You can see the road we just traveled cut into the cliffs.
Upper Waikani Falls (also called Three Bears Falls- big, medium, and small): The hike down to these was a little tricky but rewarding.

Mike got in and swam but they were a little too cold for me.One of the many narrow bridges we crossed.
Looking over Makapipi Falls.
Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree
Check out that bark! My SIL, Erin loves these and they remind me of her. Love you Erin!
We stopped at Coconut Glen's for some ice cream made from coconut milk. If you stay there they serve it right in a coconut shell for the bowl and the husk for the spoon. We ate ours on the road so we just got the husk spoon.
Pa'iloa Beach in Wai'anapanapa State Park: the only volcanic black sand beach on Maui.
Mike's turn writing in the sand.
We took a little turn off the highway to go down Nahiku Road.
The road cuts right through the rainforest on Maui.
Hawaiian Red Ti: I love this plant!
So after getting up at 2 am, riding down a volcano crater, driving on the road to Hana with several hikes in between, we headed back to our hotel completely exhausted.
