Lake Carlos

In June we went camping at Lake Carlos in Alexandria, MN. The first half hour while we were setting up camp Adam wouldn't get out of the car because of the bugs and mosquitoes. I was a bit worried but it turned out to be a great trip. In the end Adam exclaimed, "This is the best trip ever!" Mike's Dad joined us for the second night to do some star gazing. He also showed Adam & Anna how to roast the perfect smore.

June is a great time to see the planets since they line up pretty well in the sky. The night was perfect for viewing with very few clouds and not much light pollution as we were away from the city. Since Adam has read so many space books lately he was very excited to view the planets and stars. He has memorized many facts about the solar system and planets so this was a real treat for him to see them with his own eyes. He just kept saying, "they look fake," and was amazed everytime he looked through the telescope and binoculars. We were able to see Saturn with its rings and moons, craters on the moon, a few nebulas, and the twin galaxies. Later in the night we woke up Adam to see Jupiter (one of his favorite planets) with the great red spot and volcanic moons. Mike and his dad stayed up later to view Uranus & Neptune.

He was one happy little boy!

We also learned to geo cache thanks to our friends the Heads that took us on our first geo cache last year. Later during the day we also found some ticks from our geo cache experience- yuck!

Anna with her catepillar collection

Camille did great on her first camping trip and loved being outside!

We even saw a few turtles down by the lake.
