A scripture a day til Christmas

We have several advent calendars in our home to count down until Christmas. The kids love to keep track of them and I don't have to do a thing. In addition to the ones we already have, every year we buy a cheap advent calendar for each child- you know the ones with the little chocolate figures hidden behind little doors. For obvious reasons those calendars quickly became the favorite. A few years ago we added a new aspect to the chocolate calendar that has worked beautifully in our home. We read a scripture about Jesus each day in December leading up to Christmas, and afterward the kids get to punch out the door and eat their chocolate. We have been doing this a few years now and I love the excitement over reading the scriptures and I hope that as the years go by it will help them remember what Christmas is really all about.

I meant to post this last week but it's not too late to get started if you'd like to try this with your own family. If you start tomorrow you could punch 3 doors in one day! Here is the scripture list that we put together (coming from the Old & New Testament, Book of Mormon, and Pearl of Great Price).

Scriptures about Jesus to read with your children each of the 24 days before Christmas:

Scriptures and chocolate, that's a good association. Very creative parenting! Good work with our grandchildren!
